    special concert will be held at Carlos do Carmo auditorium on December 9 (Saturday), to celebrate the life and career of Beto Kalulu, a famous local musician.

    Beto has a long history in the Algarve’s music scene, having become one of the best known musicians in the Western Algarve, not only due to his talent behind a drum or percussion set but also his infectious upbeat personality.

    With over 45 years of live performances under his belt in the region, the Portuguese-Angolan musician has prepared a “revitalised repertoire” for this special concert which will include “new arrangements and never-before-heard songs”. The show will also feature a musical chronology of his career.

    Accompanied by excellent musicians and distinguished international guestsdancers and multimedia resources, the concert will provide an emotional and engaging experience”, the event’s press release says, adding that a “narrator will guide the audience”, sharing interesting facts and providing introductions.

    An exhibition by Filipa Brito will also be set up at the auditorium, featuring postersphotographsvideospersonal objects, and musical instruments that played a “fundamental role in his journey”.

    Tickets cost €8 per person and can be purchased online, at the CTT, FNAC and Worten ticket offices or at the usual outlets in Lagoa, which include the auditorium, the São José convent’s cultural centre, and the Balcão Único.

    The 3rd Charity Christmas Choral Concert, organised by Ideias do Levante Cultural Association and Ferragudo’s parish council, will bring the true Christmas spirit to Ferragudo’s Igreja Matriz Church this November 26 (Sunday) at 5pm.

    In support of those in need, entries to the show will be made through a donation to Ferragudo’s Support Centre for the Elderly, and Ferragudo’s Fábrica da Igreja.

    Both choral groups have been contributing to the local cultural scene, with events such as Portimão Choir Meeting and Lagoa Choral Week.

    The Ideias do Levante Choir was founded in 1996 as part of the Ideias do Levante Association and is currently directed by Maria Saramago. The choir has performed in various parts of the Iberian Peninsula and organises various events throughout the year, including the Lagoa Choral Week. Every Wednesday, it rehearses in CEFLA, in Lagoa, from 8pm to 10pm.

    The Adágio choral group was founded in Portimão in September 1989 and currently has around 30 members under the artistic direction of António Alves Alferes Pereira. Its main objective has always been to promote quality choral music, through a very varied repertoire. The group has been organising the Portimão Choir Meeting, in collaboration with the City Council, since 1994.

    The concert is recommended for people aged six and over and is limited to the existing capacity.

    Lagos train station to become restaurant and art gallery

    The old station will be part of a project featuring two new hotels located next to Lagos’ marina

    According to local news website Algarve Marafado, Lagos’ old and obsolete train station will be transformed into a restaurant and art gallery.

    The property was sold to an investor with a rehabilitation project who “according to information obtained from Mayor Hugo Pereira, intends ‘to create a restaurant and café on the ground floor and an art gallery on the 1st floor’”, says the website.

    Two hotels from the international Hilton chain are also set to be built on the surrounding land (ranging from the back of both the old and current stations to close to the Escola das Naus).

    According to the information shared by the promoters some time ago, one of the hotel units will feature 180 rooms and the other 90.

    The mayor revealed the process “is at a very advanced stage” and expects the work to start this year or the next.

    In celebration of World Wine Tourism Day, Lagoa will host a special event, the “Arade Wine Experience”, on Saturday, November 11.

    The event will take participants on a wine tour around the municipality, starting with a meet-up at Ferragudo’s Praça Rainha Dona Leonor at 9.30am.

    This will be followed at 10am by a tasting of wines from the Algarve Golden Terroir, the joint bid of Lagoa, Lagos and Silves for European Wine Capital of 2023, with a view of the Arade river.

    The event will continue at 12.30pm at Arvad Wine, one of the region’s newest winemakers, where participants will arrive by boat for “delicious lunch paired with the winemaker’s wines.”

    Morgado do Quintão will be the last stop on the tour at 4pm, a family property which will provide a tasting of “authentic wines” originating from “sustainable and organic practices in which the native and traditional grape varieties of Lagoa and the Algarve take centre stage”.

    Participants will then be taken back to Praça Rainha Dona Leonor at 6pm.

    Tickets for Arade Wine Experience are already for sale.

    Tickets cost €45 per person and can be purchased online or at the ticket offices of CTT, Fnac, Worten, Carlos do Carmo auditorium, São José convent, and the Balcão Único in Lagoa.

    Chef João Viegas from Atlântico restaurant and visiting chef Vincent Guimerà from L’Antic Molí restaurant in Spain will join forces this October 29 for a special dinner.

    “An unmissable dining experience featuring the truffle, one of the most popular ingredients of all time will be the highlight of a week dedicated to the uniqueness of the exotic truffle, taking place at the Atlântico restaurant between October 28 and November 1, with a menu carefully prepared by chef João Viegas and his team,” says the resort.

    Chef Vincent Guimerà from L’Antic Molí restaurant has been recognised as one of the “pioneers of the Slow Food and Km0 movements”, awarded a Michelin Star in 2017 and a Green Michelin Star in 2020. With its cuisine focusing on local and organic products, the restaurant’s philosophy is deeply connected to the region and its community, similar to the philosophies of chef João Viegas at Atlântico.

    There will be a four-hand dinner at 7pm with a 6-course tasting menu for €170 per person and an option for wine pairings for €75 per person. The rest of the week, dinners will be served à la carte.
