    First Living in the Algarve Live Seminar happens this April 14, with expert speakers on taxation, residency, legal matters and more

    The first in a series of events by the Living in the Algarve is being organised by the Open Media Group, publishers of the Portugal Residentwill be held on Thursday, April 14 at the Tivoli Carvoeiro hotel.

    The events are planned primarily to attract visitors to the Algarve who may be considering either moving here or buying a home with a view to living here, along with local foreign residents who may wish to learn more about various aspects of living in the region.

    Expert speakers will be on hand at this first event, such as Gavin Scott, senior partner of Blevins Franks in Portugal, who will be talking about tax issues affecting expats living here with a focus on the NHR (non-habitual residence scheme).

    From the Sovereign Group, head of business development for Portugal, Shelley Wren will be talking about residency for Brits and other non-EU nationals, providing expert advice on options such as the D7 and the Golden Visa.

    The event will also include a presentation from prominent Algarve lawyer Prof. Dr. Pedro Rosado of Rosado Advogados who will talk about the legal aspects surrounding property ownership, and from Michael Reeve, CEO of AFPOP, the association of foreign property owners in Portugal.

    The seminar will be hosted and moderated by Open Media’s CEO Bruce Hawker who himself has lived in the Algarve for over 40 years

    There will be two identical seminar sessions held at 11am and 3pm with plenty of time before and after each session for guests to meet the speakers and members of their teams.

    This first event will be followed by more Living in the Algarve seminars to be held at different venues soon to be announced along the Algarve, with five events planned per year.

    “This is a project that has been on the back-burner for us during the Covid pandemic,” said Bruce Hawker. “We had all five venues booked for our 2020 events and had to cancel everything at the last minute when Covid hit. But we are thrilled to finally be ready to stage our first event and, together with our event partners, we look forward to helping many foreign nationals learn more about living here.”

    The International Dance Festival happens this Saturday, March 26 at the Portimão Arena

    International Dance Festival Portimão 2022

    Academia Dança Mais will once again hold the Portimão International Dance Festival in partnership with Portugal Dance Academy and this year, included in the March Jovem programme.

    This event will bring to the city of Portimão dancers, teachers and juries from north to south of the country, with the presence of several international names in all these spheres.

    The event, which up until now has been exclusively for Ballroom Dancing, will now feature competitions in other styles, including Urban, Contemporary, Modern Dance and others.

    The qualifications will be up until 2.00 pm and the Finals until 8.00 pm.

    The venue will also provide with social gathering places, cafeteria service and several options of snacks and hot dishes.

    Tickets start at €5 and can be purchased at Academia Dança Mais, Museu de Portimão and Portimão Arena.

    Rui Filipe Freitas, on the drumsAlexandre Dahmen on the piano and Luís Henrique on the double bass will perform at the TEMPO Theatre in Portimão this Friday at 9pm.

    Tickets can be purchased online here (Bol.pt) or at the TEMPO Theatre, open every Tuesday to Saturday, from 1pm to 6pm, and until the beginning of the night shows. The tickets will cost €5.

    WORLD TRAILER AWARDS 2022

    This year, the Algarve was selected to host the World Trailer Awards at the Tivoli Marina Vilamoura with the help of Spy Manor Productions

    The World Trailer Awards, which took place at the Tivoli Vilamoura Marina on Saturday the 26th of February, was the first-ever WTA brought to the Algarve, with Spy Manor Productions working behind the scenes to bring the event to the Algarve via media partner Deadline, as Peter Ogunsalu of Spy Manor Productions has been in discussions with Evelyn Brady-WattersCo-founder of the 21-year-old GTA’s Golden Trailer Awards, to launch the World Trailer Awards in the Algarve region for some time.

    Streamed on Sunday the 27th of February at around 21.30, the event has already created quite a stir, promoting the Algarve as a hot location for the industry.

    The World Trailer Awards 2022 were launched as an international edition of The Golden Trailers award show and aim to “honour outstanding marketing excellence in 32 categories across cinema, television, gaming, podcasting & radio, streaming and social media”.

    Winners of The World Trailer Awards were awarded top prizes in the form of innovative NFT art pieces for delivering stand-out marketing content for their global entertainment sector at the World Trailer Awards inaugural annual awards ceremony.

    The event was presented by the Portuguese actor Sónia Balacó, and the Regional Winners were selected by a high-profile international jury that consisted of top-level directors, producers, actors, writers, executives and advertising creatives.

    Evelyn Brady-Watters, Co-founder of the GTA’s Golden Trailer Awards, stated, “We’re thrilled to announce the Regional finalists for the inaugural World Trailer Awards and grateful for the opportunity to showcase their outstanding work and announce the overall winners in the beautiful and culturally rich Vilamoura.”

    The World Trailer Awards is an event that honours the outstanding achievements of the world’s best creatives, marketing the world’s best entertainment across Cinema, TV, Gaming, Podcast & Radio, Streaming Services and Social Media, celebrating the strategic and creative excellence of the entertainment marketers and creatives delivering audiences for the entertainment industry worldwide.

    Executive Director of the World Trailer Awards, Dean Wheeler, said organisers are “delighted to create the awards environment for the world’s amazing and often unacknowledged talent that creates entertainment marketing. Regardless of how difficult these last two years have been, we’re humbled to honour the spectacular work of creative industry professionals whose skills shine through and continue to inspire everyone to engage with the world of entertainment.”

    Among the industry executives presenting honours Saturday were Kelly Warnell, Head of Entertainment at Hearst UK; Karen Nunn, CEO of Strategem; and Micaela Romanini, Vigamus Foundation VD.

    According to organisers, guests in attendance included Matt Brubaker, CEO and creative director of Trailer Park Worldwide; Evelyn Brady-Watters, executive director of the Golden Trailer Awards.

    Winners including ‘Ozark’, ‘Last Night In Soho’ and ‘The Tomorrow War’

    ‘Last Night in Soho’ – a 2021 psychological thriller by Edgar Wright – was one of the winners of the night. Joe Argent from Zealot UK won two awards in the Cinema categories for Best Online Advertising and Best Outdoor Advertising for his work on the film’s advertising.

    Netflix also had a successful night, with crime drama ‘Ozark’ winning for Outdoor Advertising in the Streaming category, miniseries ‘Halston’ receiving Best Trailer and documentary ‘Cocaine Boys’ being awarded Best Poster.

    Meanwhile, Amazon Prime Video’s ‘Tomorrow War’ won for Best Experiential Marketing.

    “The event will be streamed and will promote the Algarve as a hot location for the industry. As with everything we do, our goal is to put the Algarve on the map as a versatile, accessible, and welcoming filming location,” the production company says.

    The World Trailer Awards were launched as an international edition of The Golden Trailers award show and aim to “honour outstanding marketing excellence in 32 categories across cinematelevisiongamingpodcasting & radiostreaming and social media” in seven global regions: AfricaAsiaAsia-PacificEuropeLatin AmericaMiddle East & North Africa and North America.

    “With the dramatic increase in global connectivity and game-changing technologies, creators and storytellers, inventors and entrepreneurs are redefining content creation and audiences at staggering speeds,” organisers say.

    “The work of the entertainment marketers to discover and deliver audiences has never been more challenging or important than it is today. World markets, new entertainment properties, and platforms all require compelling marketing strategies and creativity for success and with them a new forum for worldwide professional recognition,” they add.

    In other words, the goal was to create “a new global competition offering unique opportunities for marketers and creatives to have their work seen by a global professional audience”.

    Organisers stress that the structure and submission process ensures a leveled playing field and equal opportunity for all. Marketing professionals from around the world will review and score the submissions, ensuring that each entry is competing fairly for recognition as outstanding in their region and then in the World Trailer Awards finals.
