8th Algarve International Piano Festival welcomes renowned Portuguese pianist António Rosado this March 9

Portuguese piano soloist António Rosado will perform this March 9 at 7pm at Portimão’s TEMPO Theatre.

“One of the greatest Portuguese pianists of our time”, António Rosado, will perform a programme that is “extraordinary in its richness and diversity”.

With his extensive piano repertoire, António Rosado has gained national and international recognition for his talent and taste for variety.

The French magazine Diapason described him as an “interpreter who masters what he does. It’s as much about emotion and poetry as it is about colour and good taste”.

Having studied at the National Conservatory of Music in Lisbon, he moved to Paris at just 16 years old to study under Aldo Ciccolini at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse, and attended the Perfection Courses in Italy’s Siena and Biella.

Rosado has performed numerous times with national and international orchestras and his discography includes outstanding works from the solo piano and chamber music repertoire.

He has been honoured by the Maurice Ravel International Music Academy, the Perosi International Academy, the Vianna da Motta International Music Competition and the Alfredo Casella International Prize.

António Rosado holds the prestigious rank of Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, a distinction awarded by the French government in 2007.

This March, Rosado’s programme will feature Maurice Ravel’s “Valses nobles et sentimentales”, Isaac Albéniz’s “Iberia: El Albaicin”, Enrique Granados’s “Goyescas: La Maja y el Ruiseñor El Pelele”, and Sergei Rachmaninoff’s “Variations On A Theme Of Chopin op.22 Corelli op.42”

Ticket for the Festival range from €15 to €20 and can be purchased online via www.tempo.bol.pt or at TEMPO’s ticket office between Tuesday and Saturday from 1pm to 6pm or on the nights of the concerts. Students and people over 65 can benefit from a 25% discount upon presentation of proof.

The municipality of Lagos has started implementing a network of trained and certified personnel to use the Automated External Defibrillation (DAE), to be ready to respond to cases of cardiac arrest in the community, part of the initiative Programme of Automated External Defibrillation (PMDAE).

Programa Municipal de Desfibrilhação Automática Externa – (PMDAE) - 3 - To save lives Lagos is creating a local defibrillation network

The aim of the project is to increase the chances of surviving a cardiac arrest, since “quick action is of paramount importance, as it increases the likelihood of a successful recovery of the heartbeat and reduces the likelihood of irreversible brain damage”. And a combination of early defibrillation and Basic Life Support (BLS) manoeuvres increases the survival chances.

Programa Municipal de Desfibrilhação Automática Externa – (PMDAE) - 3

Lagos’ Municipality has already trained more than 300 people.

The first four defibrillators have been installed in local schools (Júlio Dantas, Tecnopolis, Gil Eanes and Das Naus).

Programa Municipal de Desfibrilhação Automática Externa – (PMDAE) - 3

At the beginning of this year, security and rescue vehicles operating in the municipality will also have five pieces of equipment for the Civil Protection, Municipal Police, PSP, GNR and Marine Police.

The programme will also be extended to the Municipal Workshops (Chinicato), and three defibrillators have been provided in support of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lagos.

Defibrillators will also be placed in 11 public places, in Luz, Espiche, Almádena, Barão de São João, Bensafrim, Chinicato, Odiáxere and Lagos’s Praça do Infante, Mercado de Santo Amaro, Praça Gil Eanes and near the Edifício Paços do Concelho Séc. XXI.

Algarve Jazz Orchestra joins jazz singer Maria Anadon and German conductor Ferdinand Von Seebach for special concerto in Lagoa

The Algarve Jazz Orchestra, under the direction of German trombonist Ferdinand Von Seebach and along with jazz singer Maria Anadon, will perform original compositions as well as jazz staples

    – February 6, 2024

In this special evening, Maria Anadon, regarded as one of the most important Portuguese jazz singers today, will perform with the Algarve Jazz Orchestra, an ensemble that is also very well known, led by Ferdinand Von Seebach, one of Berlin’s most sought-after trombonists.

The concert will take place in February 17 at 7pm, at Lagoa’s Carlos do Carmo Auditorium.

The Algarve Jazz Orchestra will present music written by Ferdinand, created for various projects he’s worked on with his own Jazz Orchestra – the Fine Arts Big Band – which he founded together with the drummer Stephan Genze nine years ago.

Ferdinand Von Seebach has always been attracted to the theatre throughout his career because it is among the most conducive environments for jazz: the musicals, accompanied by jazz orchestras, create an atmosphere in which words, surroundings, images, poems, and people become a complete musical exercise.

For Ferdinand, “music is always a way of expressing something that words may not be able to express, of reminding our souls of feelings and stories that we may know but cannot tell”.

Tickets cost €10 and can be purchased at Lagoa’s Carlos do Carmo Auditorium or via BOL’s website.
